Rio de Janeiro was once ago the capital of Brasil and then, the most important city from all the portuguese kingdon. From those times, Rio still keeps a lot of history and beautiful preserved old buildings from the XVII, XVIII and XIX centuries. Churches, palacies, convents and monasteries that help to understand the development of the brazilian nation. This historic tour combines walking and riding the subway.  Starts leaving your hotel walking to the nearest subway station inbound to Cinelandia square, most popular place in Rio where the beautiful classic Municipal Theater (1909) is located togheter with the National Library (1910), Pedro Ernesto palacy –  city Chamber (1923) and the Museum of Fine Arts (1908). The famous and picturesque portuguese blocks used on the path pavement are also a trade mark from Cinelandia… Tour continues by Rio Branco avenue, opened in 1908, used to be the “wall street” of Rio, where most of the financial companies where located untill 2002, when the stock market moved to São Paulo. We will then arrive at XV November square, the place where the city began its development and home of importante historic buildings from the time Brazil was still a monarchy, like “Paço Imperial” – first royal palace and the place where princess Izabel declared slavery extinct in Brazil, on May the 13th, 1888; the magnificent colonial style Nossa Senhora do Carmo churc (XVIII), that used to be the metropolitan cathedral and keeps the mortal lefts of Pedro Alvares Cabral, the portuguese sailor comerciant that “discover” Brazil back in 1500; Tiradentes palacy – State Chamber (1926); São José church (XIX), Nossa Senhora do Carmo convent (XVI) and the market street, where we will walk to the so famous Candelária church (XIX). Keep walking (always!) to the 1894 classic Colombo Bakery for a authentic brazilian coffee break! Then, tour finishes at Santo Antonio convent (XVIII) for more importante history about Brazil, at Carioca square. Back to hotel by subway.

This tour takes you to the two highlights of Rio: Corcovado and Sugar Loaf! Tour starts with the pickup at your hotel and heads to a quick stop at a tipycal fruit Market called “feira livre”, where you have the opportunity to feel and try some of the brazilian flavors, like “caju”, “água de coco”, “tapioca”, “pastel”, “caldo de cana” and more… Next stop is the XIX century station to board the electric cogwheel train to the 710 meters high Corcovado mountain, where the statue of Christ The Redeemer was built, back in 1931 and today, is one of the new 7 Wonders of the world! After a 20 minutes ride through Tijuca National park, will arrive at the top just where the fantastic 30 meters high statue looks over the marvellous city and reveals an astonishing 360º view of Rio! Next stop are the colorful Selaron steps, the 1750 aqueduct and the Metropolitan Cathedral of São Sebastião of Rio de Janeiro, at Lapa district. The tour continues on a panoramic visit to the world famous Maracanã soccer stadium and the Sambadrome stadium, especially project by the world famous brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer, in 1984 to host the official Carnival parades. Last stop will be at Urca neighborhood, where the 396 meters high granite monolith, so called Sugar Loaf mountain rests imposing for about 600 millions years. After riding the cable car, you will be able to enjoy an amazing view of the shore of Rio de Janeiro, downtown, Gloria bay, Flamengo, Botafogo and Copacabana beaches. Then, tour heads back to your hotel.

Soccer lover? Me too! Get to know the world most famous soccer stadium Maracanã as this tour will take you inside of it, dressrooms, press room, bleachers and the huge green field. From 1950´s, nowadays it may accommodate about 78.000 fans during important matches and musical festivals. Next stop will be at one of the four biggest “carioca” soccer teams: Flamengo, Fluminense, Botafogo or Vasco da Gama, where will learn more about the history of soccer in Rio. Tour ends at the museum of the 5 times world Champion national brazilian soccer team, in the new part of the city, called Barra da Tijuca and then, back to hotel.
